Makeup Finishing Spray | Makeup Monday from Kellie Mae
We’ve talked about primer and how it helps your foundation stick to your skin better. Now, let’s talk about makeup setting/sealing/finishing spray.
I carry a variety in my kit and have some favorites to share with you. If you’re going to be needing makeup to last all day, you’re going to want a setting spray to use and carry with you to help freshen up your look. One thing to keep in mind is that some setting sprays can make your skin more dewy, and sometimes the dewy look does not necessarily photograph well, or too much setting spray can make your skin look greasy. Here are my favorites:
MAC Fix +
MAC Fix + is a great makeup finishing spray with many uses. It not only smells heavenly but acts as a nice moisturizer for the skin before makeup application if you need something light. Fix + can also be used to dilute/thin out foundations or cream makeup, liquefy your powder pigments to be used as liners, or “foiling” your shadows as a mixing medium. It’s also great on the go for freshening up your makeup without having to reapply powder OR if you’ve over powdered. MAC Makes a travel size which is the perfect size for taking on the plane or keeping in your purse. I have the travel size one in my kit because it’s smaller and travels better. I refill it with the regular sized bottle. For setting your makeup hold the bottle about 12 inches from your face and spray about 5-6 times to cover your entire face. Let dry and enjoy the dewy look and how wonderful your skin will feel!
Urban Decay All Nighter
Ask me what my favorite setting spray is, and this is what I’ll recommend to you. I use this on my brides because I like just how tough this stuff is. The product itself isn’t as versatile as Fix+, but if you’re out to look for a long wearing setting spray this is a great go to. It is more costly than MAC’s but it’s a GREAT setting spray. This provides a dewy finish and seals your makeup and if you have oily skin it should wear well. Spray 6-8 inches from the face in an “X” or “T” formation. Long lasting makeup goodness, great for setting powders and cream!
Ben Nye Final Seal
Ben Nye is traditionally a stage makeup brand with an appeal to professional makeup artists because of the reliability and low cost for a high quality product. Ben Nye products typically withstand harsh temperatures and are a great tool for professionals in the theater and Special FX world of makeup artistry all the way through beauty makeup. This setting spray can be used to seal makeup, but it’s downside is that it smells like mouthwash and contains alcohol. But it’s a GREAT makeup sealer, especially in hot and humid temperatures, and has the setting abilities similar to hairspray for the face. They use it in theater and FX, so you know this stuff is great!
Rosewater & Glycerin Spray
This combination can be used for a moisturizer or finishing spray. It is GREAT for drier skin types or toning down excess powder on the skin. It has a light rose scent and this spray must be used sparingly if you’re using as a setting spray.
